King’s Hope Development Foundation
King’s Hope Development Foundation is a non-profit (Section 21) company established in January 2002 as the community development and training arm of Hope Community Church and a number of other Christian churches and denominations with which it is working in partnership. Working in Gauteng’s Olievenhoutbosch area, which consists of an informal settlement and an RDP housing project, King’s Hope serves a community of 100’000 people within which approximately 45% of heads of households are unemployed. The average income of employed inhabitants varies between R1,000 and R1,200 per month.
As part of a holistic development approach, King’s Hope focuses on the empowerment of individuals, leadership development and unlocking the potential of the community through spiritual guidance, and sound community development principles leading to community participation, ownership and self-sufficiency.
Bytes Healthcare Solutions has been instrumental in facilitating and establishing King’s Hope’s HIV/AIDS Education and Support Programme. This programme aims to reduce the incidence of HIV infections through education and behavioural change and to support the infected and affected.
The Programme addresses a set of objectives as follows:
- Social Mobilisation and Communication
- Prevention - which includes Education and Services
- Care and Support - including Medical, Emotional, Administrative, and Spiritual Support
- Liaison with other Stakeholders, Donors and the Community
The funds which Bytes Healthcare Solutions contributes to King’s Hope support the honoraria for seven care-givers. Bytes Healthcare Solutions makes additional funds available on an ad-hoc basis, inter alia from fundraising events.
